PTP/1588 on Zynq-7000 with Petalinux

I'm developing on an Avnet MMP-7Z100 board which uses the Zynq 7000.

I'm looking for the best solution for 1588 PTP using petalinux with the linuxptp module.

From the xilinx wiki, it seems that the macb driver does not support PTP for the Zynq -7000.

When I tried using it, it could not find the PHC /dev/ptp0

So does Xilinx recommend creating a timestamp unit in the PL as the Zynq TRM advises?

Or is it better to use one of the PL IPs such as the AXI ethernet subsystem that supports 1588?

If I was to use the the AXI ethernet subsystem, then I would not be able to use linuxptp because it's not using the PS GEM, is that correct?

I would appreciate any insight into what would be the best or most practical design approach for 1588 functionality.
