Maximum target kernel frequency

Jump to solution

Hi all,

I am currently writing a thesis where I performed research on the KCU1500 accelerator with SDAccel.
Its maximum kernel clock frequency is 300 MHz.
However, to determine the maximum future performance of my kernel, I want to know what the maximum kernel frequency is for newer hardware platforms, preferably with a link to documentation so I can cite it.

So what is the maximum kernel target frequency (with link) for the following SDAccel Ultrascale+ generation hardware:
- xilinx_vcu1525_dynamic
- xilinx_u200_xdma_201820_1
xilinx_u250_xdma_201820_1

Kind regards,
Remy

Hi, @remy561 ,

The default frequency requriement for kernel is 300Mhz for vcu1525, u200 and U250.

You can set a user-defined clock frequency in MHz(--kernel_frequency) for the kernel to override a default value from the DSA if the 300Mhz cannot be achieved.

Dear @hongh,

Thank you for your response.

I remember increasing my clock on the KCU1500, but there the compiler returned that 300 MHz was the maximum for this DSA and thus 300 MHz was set as the target.
Does this mean that the default kernel clock has not changed, but the maximum clock has? See this forum post where the clock is increased to 400 MHz.

Kind regards,
Remy

Re: Maximum target kernel frequency

Hi, @remy561 ,

The kernel clock will be changed to the value in kernel_frequency option if there is no timing vialation in the design.

In most situations with complex or large kernels, it's hard to get kernel frequency faster than  the default freq(300MHz)
