Winbond 128Mb SPI Flash Support in IMPACT: W25Q128BVFIG

Hi,

Does anyone know if IMPACT supports this SPI Flash W25Q128BVFIG? I'm using the 12.3 version of tools for a Spartan 6 design. I know the 64mb version (W25Q64BVZEIG) works, but didn't find the 128Mb version in the dialog box.

I currently have designs that use the 64Mb version, but would like to upgrade to hold more configuration data files.

Another way to put it is: has anyone used the 128Mb version of the Winbond Flash before?

Thanks!

Impact 12.3 doesn't support 128 Mbit version of Winbod flash with spartan-6. You can find the list of SPI flashes in the below snapshots(for 12.3 and 13.3). You can go with a vendor flash which supports 128 Mbit with spartan-6. Our latest impact version 13.3 supports 128 Mbit Winbond-BV flash with Kintex-7 devices only.

Re: Winbond 128Mb SPI Flash Support in IMPACT: W25Q128BVFIG

I went ahead and tried with Impact 13.2 and I saw the following...

You can see my device is a Spartan 6 and IMPACT gives the 128Mb version as a choice now. Is this a bug that it can allow you to select a 128Mb device even though I'm not using a Kintex 7?

I'd really like to use the 128Mb Winbond because the pacakge size is the same. Is there anyway to get a 2nd opinion other than the Help file?

Re: Winbond 128Mb SPI Flash Support in IMPACT: W25Q128BVFIG

Yes, this is a bug in impact help. You can use 128 Mbit Winbond flash with spartan-6(using 13.2 or any version which lists the device in impact GUI drop-down menu). The devices listed in GUI should be considered in confusions like this. Thanks for bringing it up. I will file a change request to get this updated in impact help.

Great news! Thank you very much for confirming this. I was a bit worried about not being able to use the 128Mb version. So, this really makes my day!!
