Colour Image for use in ISim with ISE Webpack 14.7

Jump to solution

I need to read a file with a RGB image for use in a testbench. I would like to read one colour from one pixel as a 14 bit std_logic_vector. I am coding in VHDL. Any ideas of how to do that? Is it a must to convert the image, which at present is in .jpg format, to a .txt file?

Moreover it would be helpful for me to use several VHDL modules in the same testbench. Is that possible?

I have been Googling around fow a while without success. Would be so pleased if you guys could help :)

In general RGB image 24 bit with each 8 bit color data. you need to extract the image data into binary . you can C code or matlab to convert binary file

To add to Bala's notes, .jpg is a compressed file format. Since you want to work on raw pixel data, yes you need to convert it in some form or another (though it doesn't need to be .txt extension).

If you look at some of the demo testbenches for some of our video IP, you'll see that they show how to read in .bmp files (which is raw binary pixel data).
