Is there a way to reset/remove/delete simulation files within a project?

Jump to solution

In a typical Vivado project (project mode), I can clear an implementation or synthesis run quite easily by right clicking the appropriate icon in the flow navigator and "resetting" the run. When I run behavioral or post-synthesis simulations, I don't really see this option. Normally, it's not a big deal, but on some larger projects, a post-synthesis functional or timing simulation can generate approximately 1 GB of files! I won't pretend that I'm an expert at design, so maybe these simulations shouldn't generate such large files. But sometimes simulations are a great way for me to debug my designs by tracing signals.

The large number of files show up in the automatically generated folders: [project_name]/[project_name].sim/sim_1/

(then, behav for behavioral and synth for synthesis). After I clear/reset a synthesis run, the simulation files remain.

Is there a way for me to delete these files? It would be nice to have the option to delete them when I'm done with a simulation since I sometimes back up my files and all of a sudden there are a lot more files than anticipated. I didn't see much on the forums and I scanned and read some manuals and either I completely missed it or I couldn't find it. I currently manage this by deleting the folder manually, but sometimes I worry that I will end up deleting some necessary files or files that Vivado will complain are missing next time I open the project.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am using Vivado 2014.4 (sometimes on Windows7, sometimes on Linux-CentOS)

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Hi,

Are you looking for "reset_simulation" command?

Thanks,

Hi,

There is no option to reset the simulation runs similar to synthesis and implementation.

The workaround is to use tcl command to delete the files. i.e., file delete -force xsim.ini

Thanks,
Vinay

Hi,

Have you tried reset_project tcl command. For more details run reset_project -help in vivado tcl console.

Thanks,
Deepika.

Thank you all for the help! I didn't think to use the tcl commands (my apologies, I'm still pretty new to Vivado!).
