7-segment display

So I have a spartan 6 FPGA board with a four digit 7-segment display, and I need the basics on how to make them work. Our professor told us about the anodes and cathodes, but I'm not sure how to use them to make numbers on the display. I am using Verilog, by the way. Any help is much appreciated.

These are essentially LEDs configured in nice arrangement to form numbers and crude letters.   When you want to light up one of the LED segments you either output a 0 or 1 to desired connection.   You will need to read the board user guide or schematic to determine which of the Spartan-6 FPGA IO pins is connected to which segment and then the board user guide or the data sheet for the component to determine if you need to output a 0 or 1.

Re: 7-segment display

Hi,

unfortunately you didn't mention which board you are using.

But you can take a look at the digilent NEXYS 3 User guide.

They have a section where they describe connection and multiplexing controll very well.

A basic hex2segment decoder can be found in the ISE HDL templates (the lightbulb icon).

You neeed to check wether the polarity matches with your boards circuit.

Have a nice synthesis
