Reference designs for interfacing through RJ45 port

Jump to solution

Hi,

I was looking for a reference design to interface a PLD with RJ45 port. Does anyone know of any elementary code (preferably in VHDL) in which I can demonstrate the exchange of data through RJ45 port via a CPLD / FPGA.

Thanks,

Arvind Gupta

RJ45 is just a kind of connector.  Typically it is used for twisted-pair Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, 1000BASE-T, etc.).  If you're looking for an Ethernet example, then typically you'll find it under the appropriate eval board that supports your FPGA family.  In any case, Ethernet would not be supported directly from the FPGA itself.  Your board would need at least an Ethernet PHY chip.  Many eval boards come with the PHY and RJ45, as well as example designs to get you started.
