Regarding Power estimation on spartan6 FPGA

Hello,

We have selected the FPGA Spartan6 " XC6SLX16-2FTG256C  " for one of our new projects. We would like to know the total power consumption (approximately)  of the device for the following criteria.

Total utilization factor:75 %

VCCINT=1.2V

VCCO=3.3V (All)

VCCAUX= 3.3V

Clock=133MHz

Also If you could please let me know the current requirement for VCCINT , I have attached  the Power Estimator sheet that we have worked. Could you please check whether  the way we reached the final consumption is right.

Awaiting your reply at the earliest.

Re: Regarding Power estimation on spartan6 FPGA

The power consumption depends upon design used in FPGA and environmental entries like ambient temperature etc.

As per attached XPE document, the power consumption for VCCINT is 0.106A. It seems to be low unless if you are using very small design. Please make sure that all your design entries made.  Please refer the below user guide to know the usage of XPE spread sheet. http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx11/ug440.pdf

 If your design compiled then please use XPA/Vivado power tool for more accurate estimation. See the Power Solutions page for power estimation guidelines and tools:     http://www.xilinx.com/products/technology/power.html

Re: Regarding Power estimation on spartan6 FPGA

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.How can we estimate toggle rate of I/O's,LUTs and DSP slices.Is default 12.5% is enough?

Regards,

Syamily

Re: Regarding Power estimation on spartan6 FPGA

Please check WP353 for guidance to estimate worst case power for your design requirement.
http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/white_papers/wp353.pdf

The document refers to virtex-5 and below. But the guidance can be used for spartan-6 also.

Re: Regarding Power estimation on spartan6 FPGA, maximum current i

SOARTAN 6, XC6SLX9:

Anybody who has an idea about a "maximum value" of the VCCINT current?

The "worst case" value that can ever occur?

Is there a maximum rating for the VCCINT current?

Re: Regarding Power estimation on spartan6 FPGA

@Syamily If you run simulations as per your application requirement and run XPA then it extracts all the exact toggle rates from saif/vcd simulations files. If you do not run simulations as per application, then you may set approximations as per approximations.
