Can I exclude the vid_edid_v1_0(EDID) IP from the DisplayPort 1.4 RX example design (if the operation is not affected) ?

Jump to solution

Dear Xilinx experts.

Thank you very much for your support and kind answers.

I am novice in video system.

I am studying DisplayPort 1.4 RX Subsystem (DisplayPort example).

I generated the example as described in PG300 (DisplayPort 1.4 RX Subsystem).

My Vivado version is 2018.3. The device is xcky040-ffva1156-2-e.

I want to include the DisplayPort 1.4 RX example design into my design.

The design is implemented in xcky115-flvf1924-2-i.

One problem is vid_edid_v1_0 IP. Because it is not included in Vivado IP integrator.

Can I exclude the vid_edid_v1_0 IP from the design if the operation is not affected ?

Should I use the vid_edid_v1_0 IP (EDID)?

I will appreciate if I can get the answer.

Thank you very much.

Ick-Sung Choi.

Hi @chldlrtjd

The Video EDID IP is what we call an helper core. The helper core are used to make the example design to work.

However they are not supported by Xilinx which means that officially you should design your own IP to do the behaviour of the core. This is why they do not appear in the IP catalogue.

But you definitely need an EDID block to have the DP RX IP working (note that this can also be an external chip)..

With that said, many customers just create the example design and move it to the device they are targeting so they keep the EDID IP. You can do that but just remember that if you face an issue with this IP you might not get any support from Xilinx

Hi @chldlrtjd

Answer is no.

You must implement it and prepare proper EDID parameter.

Dear watari.

The resolution is 2920*1900.

I will use 8 bit RGB.

Thank you very much.

Hi @chldlrtjd

Your resolution is not standard.

So you must describe resolution in detailed timing descriptor in EDID.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Display_Identification_Data

Would you try it ?

Dear watari.
Thank you very much for your advice.
I am making the EDID.
I found useful tool to make EDID data from Internet  https://www.analogway.com/apac/products/software-tools/aw-edid-editor/ .

Thank you very much.
