Need more detail knowledge of Embedded non-image format

Jump to solution

Hi,

In Xilinx's MIPI CSI-2 receiver subsystem document, there is an interface called Embedded Non-image Interface.

Signal emb_nonimg_tuser is one of its members. This signal carries many information such as word count, line number, frame number...

I'd like to know if line/frame number will be updated when a new line/frame coming?

And word count mean the nth pixel in a line?

And is emb_nonimg_tvalid equal to video's sync signal?

Thanks

Hello Jerry @jerry.yau

>I'd like to know if line/frame number will be updated when a new line/frame coming?

It will be updated only if your TX is sending the line/frame number information.
Please note that line number/frame number is optional in MIPI CSI-2 specification.
If you see that line/frame number is always zero, I suspect that your TX (or sensor) does not send these information.

>And word count mean the nth pixel in a line?

No.1 word = 8 bit in MIPI CSI-2.

For example using Video data:
Data type RAW8,  Word cound == pixel count in one line
Data type RAW12, 2 pixel==3 word.
-- Please find the detailed information inf the MIPI CSI-2 specification.
Explanation can be found in chapter 9 & chapter11 in the spec.

For embedded non-image :
Since we call it non-image data, this is not a Video data. (not related with video pixel data).
All embedded non-image data has 8-bit size.

> And is emb_nonimg_tvalid equal to video's sync signal?

No, emb_nonimg_tvalid is asserted when MIPI CSI-2 IP outputs Embedded Non-Image data.

Hope this helps
