Xorg issues on Ultra96v2 board (ZU3EG)

I'm trying to get Xorg running on my Ultra96v2 board. It's running on 4 Arm a53 cores and a mali-400 gpu. I used peatlinux 2018.3 to generate the kernel and I have a custom rootfs (archlinuxarm) that's different from the base peatlinux rootfs but I have added all the modules from peatlinux to my new one and everything (wifi, bluetooth, gpio, pl-axi, etc) except the displayport(xorg) works. I get a terminal on my screen through the displayport but can't start X server to run graphical applications.

Things I've tried:
1. Precompiled armsoc_drv.so from peatlinux rootfs (had version miss match error xorg)
2. compiled armsoc from https://github.com/endlessm/xf86-video-armsoc (permission denied drm)
3. xorg.conf with driver as "armsoc" (permission denied drm)
4. added user alarm to group video (permission denied drm)
5. ran startx in root user (failed to open /dev/umplock/ Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration)

1. no xorg.conf (Segmentation fault)

I don't know what I'm missing. I've tried all the options that I could find. I bet the solution is something small that I've overlooked. Anyone have ideas?

Hi @bobvanelst

Can you run a modetest command (modetest -M xlnx) and share the input?

Running the modetest (modetest -M xlnx -s 38:1920x1080@RG16) first might help by setting the output resolution/format.

@florentw There was no modetest command. I tried compiling it from from source but there's not xlnx. Modprobe also can't find xlnx

Hi @bobvanelst

I would recommend you to start with petalinux, this way the xilinx sources should be pulled correctly
