VCU TRD (vcu_10G)

Hello,

We are trying to make the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC VCU TRD 2019.1 - 10G HDMI Video Capture and HDMI Display work on a ZCU106. 

After booting up I did the following :

1- modetest -M xlnx : to check the monitor resolutions 

2- modetest -M xlnx -D a0070000.v_mix -s 40:1024x768-60@BG24 : Set one of the resolutions (color bars on the screen then blue after hitting enter)

3- vcu_gst_app /media/card/config/1080p60/Stream-out/Single_1080p60_HEVC_HIGH.cfg : start the streaming 

 

But I get the follwing error : 

Couldnt allocate dma allocator (tried using /dev/allegroIP)
ERROR: vgst_start_pipeline() failed error code "state change failed"
pipeline stopped successfully.

What source device do you use ? Desktop PC ?

If yes, it's EDID issue.

You need to change suitable EDID. It's an easy way to resolve this issue.

 

BTW, perhapse, it might be unstable setting on V4L2 bus.

So, would you share the result of following commands ?

I guess /dev/media8 is correct. If the result is not suitable, would you change number of media device ?

$ v4l2-ctl --all

First thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions:

1- I am using a laptop as an HDMI source and as far as I can see the input is good (can set to max 4k30p). The output part is what is not working properly.

2- here is the output of the commands (I sent them directly after the autoboot completed)

NOTE : in autostart.sh I changed the resolution to "modetest -D a0070000.v_mix -s 40:1024x768-60@BG24 -w 36:"alpha":0 &" to make the output work.

I followed your instructions but it didn't fix the issue.

I copied a new image (original image for vcu_10g) on the SD Card and start the whole process.

NOTE : Now I have no image on the HDMI_Tx (because the 1080p60 is not supported by the screen and need to be changed to 1024x768-60@BG24).

 

I still see the contradicition on the output of xmedia-ctl -p -d /dev/media0 

 

BTW is there a way to ignore the HDMI_Tx and send the HDMI_rx (4k60) to the 10G interface (direct stream out) ?

 

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

If yes, would you execute the following commands to make sure the relationship ?

I only use VCU_TRS (vcu_trd). So, I don't know the relationship of /dev/mediaX and /dev/videoX between each IP (HDMI Tx/Rx, VCU and so on)

$ ls /dev/media*

$ xmedia-ctl -p -d /dev/mediaX (X: 0 to number of media devices -1)

 

Also, even if I can refer device tree of VCU TRD, but I'd like to share this information, would you upload your device tree file ?

 

In this case, you must correctly set a property on V4L2 bus (include media bus), color space, bus width, color depth, resolution and CRTC value.

 

After confirmation of your current setting on V4L2 bus, I will tell you suitable setting.

 

# Note

1)

At least, it seems /dev/media0 is not related with what you want to do.

So, I think that you need to find correct V4L2 path.

 

2)

If you want to debug "vcu_gst_app", I suggest you to use environment values of GST_DEBUG and GST_DEBUG_FILE.

This is tips for debugging of gstreamer. (include vcu_gst_app)

I am trying to stream ANY kind of HDMI (up to 4k) input using the 10G interface without displaying it.

my setup is : laptop (up to 3840x2160p60)  --> HDMI_rx --> 10G ethernet using Gstreamer AND a monitor conntected to HDMI_tx 

what's happening :

  • The HDMI_rx seems to work fine since I can see the info and confirm that there is a link 
  • The HDMI_tx is not able to output 1920x1080p60 to the monitor; In fact only 1027x768, 800x600 and 640x480 resolutions are OK. If I choose one of the rest the monitor is not displaying anything.
  • the 10G interface is not up. Probably because the Gstreamer is not running in first place 

==> I think the most critical error is this : Couldnt allocate dma allocator (tried using /dev/allegroIP).

#  device tree file :

I am using the default image provided in rdf0428-zcu106-vcu-trd-2019-1_v2. I only regenerated the PL using vivado and didn't recompile the image (for now I don't have petalinux environement installed)

 

I will try to debug the Gstreamer up to see what might be a problem.

Here are the route causes.

 

1) You don't use suitable device tree file or set suitable parameter for internal PLL for VCU.

2) You don't set suitable parameters on V4L2 and mdedia bus in Linux OS by ex) xmedia-ctl.

3) You don't set suitable parameters to CRTC and an internal scaler by v4l2-ctl.

4) Might be a monitor issue. Would you share model name of your HDMI sink monitor ?

Make sure your building procedure whether is correct or not.

Also, make sure clock parameter setting for PLL.

1) I just generated the project using the tcl file provided in the Xilinx wiki page then I tested with the ready image files for the SD Card.

My monitor is Sony PremierPro SDM-P234 

2) The EDID reader of the ref design doesn't reconize the FHD60p of the monitor :

And if I set (using modetest -M xlnx -D a0070000.v_mix -s 40:1024x768-60@BG24) any resolution higher than 1024x768p60 the monitor doesn't display anything.

3) 4) The monitor (on windows) can be set to FHD60p :

But the resolution is not supported in the design for this monitor (therefore can't be set).

again I am following the Xilinx wiki page for the TRD but so far couldn't make it run.

Unfortunately, the route cause is using this monitor.

Here are reasons to occur this issue.

 

1) This monitor is old-fashioned. Only support DVI as digital interface. Not support HDMI.

2) Basically, an old-fashioned monitor which only support DVI as digital interface doesn't support CEA video timing.

3) Since there is not FHD@60Hz on supporting list in EDID, a graphics driver in Windows can't output FHD@60Hz in any officially supported.

 

Also, here are some solutions for you.

Would you choose it from the followings and try it ?

 

a) Change a monitor to supported FHD@60Hz. It's easy way to resolve this issue.

 

b) Modify EDID file in /lib/firmware/xilinx/Xilinx-hdmi-rx-edid.bin and use scaler function to change the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1920x1200. Unfortunately, an aspect ratio is broken.

Describe 1920x1080@60Hz as detailed video timing and change other things without contradiction.

I'm sure that it's difficult for you if you are not an expert about this.
