VCU ZCU104

Do you have the VCU demo of ZCU104?  I am a beginner of FPGA, I have no experience and don't know how to do.

Hi @zaizaixiaoya,

The easiest way to start with the VCU on the ZCU104 is to use the ZCU104 BSP (link) or directly the release linux image for the ZCU104 (link). Then you can use the commands mentioned in the chapter 12 of pg252. For example to do decode and display:

Hi 

If you don't have experience with FPGA you can start identifying the knowledge area that you want explore, to have an idea about this areas visit the different areas of this forum . Xilinx offers an abundant documentation about the tools for work with FPGA, the xapp documents are a good choice to understand designs in FPGA and discover different ways to do something. Another way is search training videos in YouTube about Xilinx FPGA. I hope that this information was useful to you.

Hello,

As stated in the other reply there are ways to identify the knowledge you want and educate yourself in that area using the many different methods suggested.

However you specifically asked about a demo of the Video Codec Unit as part of the ZU+ EV device on the ZCU104 board. A demo from Xilinx allow you to run that design on a Xilinx board but does not give you a way to modify or change that design. There is one available but it is fairly complex. The demo is located at https://github.com/Xilinx/reVISION-Getting-Started-Guide and it is called "8-stream VCU + CNN" which shows the VCU decoding 8 streams. There is no encoding being done.

If you are really looking at exploring what the Video Codec Unit the board that is targeted for that is the ZCU106 board. This board has extensive demos, a BSP that you can get started with and a targeted reference design (TRD) that can be used to evaluate the VCU on the ZU+ EV devices.

Lastly using the demo on the ZCU104 or switching and getting a ZCU106 and using the items that I stated takes some knowledge of Xilinx devices and FPGAs. Trying to start out with ZU+ EV device and the VCU you might want to get some help or educate yourself with a simpler Xilinx device first.
