VCU interlace support in H264

Jump to solution

Hello,

in vcu user guide v1.2 it is written that H264 only support progressive mode and not interlaced mode. Will the support for interlaced mode be added in a future release of the drivers. Or is it a hardware limitation of VCU?

Thanks.

Hello @pierlum ,

The VCU core does not support interlaced mode for H.264/AVC. This is not a device driver limitation and cannot be added with a driver update.

Interlaced mode is supported for H.265/HEVC on the VCU.

As noted in the documenation, PG252, the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC VCU (H.264/H.265 Video Codec Unit) only supports interlaced video when used in H.265 mode (encode and decode).

This is a limit of the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC VCU and there are no plans to add support for interlaced video in a future software update, for the H.264 mode (encode and decode).
