VIPP vs VPSS : Missing Feature Support

Jump to solution

Hi,

The VIP package is under maintenance mode marked as NRND and VPSS is projected as direct replacement which supports all the features of VIPP.

There is no doubt on the fact that VPSS supports multiple features and functions that earlier needed separate cores. But, there are features(or IPs) like Image Enhancement, Gamma Correction which are not available in VPSS. These two too are most needed features and these IPs are proven for performance.

We have used these IPs in our design in our evaluation mode and these seem to give good results to us. We would like to purchase them and use it in our designs. This would save a lot of our time and energy in realising the same with custom design.

Are these IPs (specifically IE and GC) still available for purchase and use in new designs? If not, it would be great if Xilinx can make these IPs available either as included in Vivado or as essential IPs with support re-extended. If not, please suggest a way out.

Thanks and Regards,

Ajay Kumar G

Hi @ajaykumargurrala,

Do you still have query on this?

Again, contact your FAE is the best option. He will point you on which IP you can use or not.

HI @ajaykumargurrala,

Please contact your FAE or Xilinx Sales Contact. We do not recommend to use the old IPs. We have partners which might have the same type of IPs (i.e. Omnitek or Xylon)

Hi Florent,

True, but these partners do have it as a single package like VPSS. So, if we have to use them we have to buy it as a full package. We have VPSS license with us and we wish to use/buy only those that are needed additionally.

Any reason as to why these IPs are discontinued or not supported even when there is a scope of use?

Thanks and Regards,

Ajay Kumar G

FYI, there is a new IP for gamma correction called Gamma LUT which is fully supported:
