Video Processing Subsystem : configuration registers

Jump to solution

Hi,

I'm actually testing the Video Processing Subsystem IP and i wanted to know if it's possible to access to the configuration registers without using the API (to control the IP with the help of a third party component).

If it's possible, where can I find the documentation?

Regards,

Cedric.

Hi @cjg,

No, the VPSS does not allow direct access to registers (i.e. the register map is hidden to the user).

Kind Regards,

Florent

Re: Video Processing Subsystem : configuration registers

Hi,

In that case do we have any other option of configuring the VPSS without using any processor cores? I want to keep my system very simple.

Using a processing subsystem such as a microblaze/arm will only increase a system footprint for a small job that can be accomplished by using a simple FSM.

I cannot also go for VIPP IPs as they are in maintenance mode.

Please suggest if there are any alternate options to do this.

Thanks and Regards,

Ajay.

Hi Ajay @ajaykumargurrala,

Using the VPSS without a processor is not supported by Xilinx. You can configure the Microblaze to be a minimalist system, it won't use that much ressources.

Else, you can try to create your own IP with HLS.

Do forget that the goal of the VPSS is to be reconfigurable, to be able to support multiple video format/resolution on the field. A processor would then be needed to control all the IP when the input change.
