Which smpte IP can receive SDI signals,2048x1080 with 50 , 59.94 and 60hz ? SD/HD/3D-SDI,UHD SDI 3G or UHD SDI 6G?

Hi everyone,

I was troubled with a puzzle recently.I want use K7 325T FFG900 -2 to receive some SDI signals for displaying.When I faced 1080p with 50hz,59.97hz and 60hz,I find that the IP CORE ,SD/HD/3D-SDI ,can help me achieve this goal.

But I don't know whether the IP CORE SD/HD/3D-SDI  can receive 2048x1080 with 50hz,59.97hz and 60hz successfully.I can't get any guide from any UG or PG I can download.I doubt that I must use IP CORE UHD-SDI to slove this problem.In addition,I afraid my board do not support 6G because my SDI receiver, gs3241 only support up to 3G.

Now I need some methods to fight against 2048x1080 with 50hz,59.97hz and 60hz.Thank you for your kindly help.

Hi @armboy,

To use the SDI cores, you will need access to the SMPTE standards. Each standard covers which resolutions are supported. Then in our PGs, we list which standards are supported by the IP. The combination of the standard and the PG(s) will cover all resolutions available.

In your case, you can do 2048x1080p25 using SDI 3G as defined by the standard.

But for higher throughputs, you will need 2 3G links(dual link) or a 6G link.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your kindly reply.I still have some puzzles.

I  want use only one GTX channel to receive 2048x1080@50,59.94 or 60hz。Does it mean that I must use UHD-SDI 6G ? I guess that dual 3G link may need  2 GTX channels.

Next question is that if dual 3G link can only use one GTX channel ,regular 3G link equalizer,such as my GS3241,can resolve dual 3G link correctly ?

Last question is that even though I get XAPP1249 code, I don't know how to convert UHD-SDI 3/6G YCBCR signal to my native RGB data format.Can you give me some suggestions?

Q1. I want use only one GTX channel to receive 2048x1080@50,59.94 or 60hz。Does it mean that I must use UHD-SDI 6G ? I guess that dual 3G link may need 2 GTX channels.

A1. You will need to use either UHD-SDI 6G or 2 3G links (2 GT channels).

A2. Dual 3G link needs 2 GT channels.

Q3. UHD-SDI 3/6G YCBCR signal to my native RGB data format.Can you give me some suggestions?

A3. Take a look at the VPSS for chroma resampling. PG231.

Hi Sam,

Thank you for your kindly reply.My puzzles seem clear.

Based on your suggestion,I think using UHD-SDI 6G is better for me.Could you offer some SMPTE protocols (supporting 2048x1080 with 50 , 59.94 and 60hz) for me?I want to realize the structure of 6G frame .

Hi @armboy,

 

The spec you are looking for is the SMPTE ST 2048-2 Spec. If you are unsure which specs that you should look at in the future, take a look at the IP Facts and Standards sections of our SMPTE IP user guides and these will list which specs you will need to have access to and become familiar with.

 

For example PG205 lists:

Standards
The core supports the following SMPTE standards:
• SMPTE ST 259: SD-SDI at 270 Mb/s
• SMPTE RP 165: EDH for SD-SDI
• SMPTE ST 292: HD-SDI at 1.485 Gb/s and 1.485/1.001 Gb/s
• SMPTE ST 372: Dual Link HD-SDI (by instantiation of two SMPTE UHD-SDI cores)
• SMPTE ST 424: 3G-SDI with data mapped by any ST 425-x mapping at 2.97 Gb/s and
2.97/1.001 Gb/s
• SMPTE ST 2081-1: 6G-SDI with data mapped by any ST 2081-x mapping at 5.94 Gb/s
and 5.94/1.001 Gb/s (including multi-link 6G-SDI)
• SMPTE ST 2082-1: 12G-SDI with data mapped by any ST 2082-x mapping at 11.88 Gb/s
and 11.88/1.001 Gb/s (including multi-link 12G-SDI)
• Dual link and quad link 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI are supported by instantiating two or four

• SMPTE ST 352: Payload ID packets into Y-Stream and C-Stream fully supported in both
the RX and TX
