Servo connection to Virtex-5 board

Hello,

I am pretty new to FPGAs and I am trying to figure out how to control a servo motor through a Xilinx XUPV5-LX110T board for a project. Is it possible to connect the servo directly to the FPGA board? It has 3 wires, one for 5V power, one for ground, and a signal wire.

If this is possible, what pins would i connect these to on the board?

I was thinking about connecting to the XGI expansion header pins but I am not sure if this is correct.

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Servo connection to Virtex-5 board

If you're talking about a typical RC servo motor that uses a PWM signal, this should be possible.

You need to see if +5V is available on your board.  The V5 signals will swing 3.3V max, but this

should be good enough to drive the servo input, which should be TTL compatible.  If not then

you'll need a CMOS buffer like 74AHCT series that accepts TTL level inputs and drives to the

+5V rail.

From a protocol perspective, you may find this useful:

For boards that support a pMOD interface (e.g. S3ESK, S3ASK), some might find this interesting:
