virtex 5 fx power pc block

I am new to the Virtex community

I'd like to know whether the usage of "block" is independent of CLBs ?

For instance, the device XC5VFX30T has an 80 x 38 array of CLBs and 1 PowerPC processor block.

If I use the PowerPC block does it leave me with fewer than 80x38 CLB available for other logic ?

thanks

Dag

Re: virtex 5 fx power pc block

The hardcore processor logic is not counted as part of the fabric.

Re: virtex 5 fx power pc block

The XC5VFX30T is listed with an array of 80x38 CLBs which would be 6,080 Slices or 24,320 LUTs.  However, the PPC440 displaces some of the CLBs and this results in on 5,120 Slices or 20,480 LUTs in the FPGA.

This is documented in Table 1 of ds100 the Virtex-5 Family Overview.
