Details on what Vitis replaces?

Jump to solution

Hi, I've been trying to work out exactly what tools Vitis is supposed to be replacing. There are effectively three flows, as found here. From playing the around on the Zynq platform, I can see that the Embedded SW Development flow is effectively a replacement for Xilinx SDK. But some questions on the others:

1. Is the Application Acceleration Development Flow a direct replacement for SDAccel in SDx?

     - What about SDSoC and SDNet?

2. Is Vitis HLS a direct replacement for Vivado HLS?

Thanks.

Hi @derekm_, Vitis is essentially a direct replacement for the flows that were in the SDx tools previously. You can see the notice placed on the legacy tools page here:

Note: Starting 2019.2, Xilinx SDK, SDSoC™ and SDAccel™ development environments are unified into an all-in-one Vitis™ unified software platform for application acceleration and embedded software development. There will be no 2019.2 or future releases of Xilinx SDx tools.

The acceleration flow is the replacement for SDAccel, and has merged in SDSoC processes as well. The 2019.2 documentation mentions migrating SDSoC designs to this flow here.

SDNet is still being developed, and still follows the same integration with Vivado as before.

Vitis HLS has replaced Vivado HLS from 2020.1 onward. The notes on what has changed is here.

Hope this helps!
