I'm new to Vitis and also OpenCL. I'm following the example of vector add provided by the GitHub repositories and I realized that I need to use OpenCL to communicate between the device and the host computer. However, when I try to emulate this tutorial, there are errors pop up indicating something wrong with the OpenCL. So my question is do I need to install OpenCL on my Ubuntu machine? If I do, how can I find the relevant information?

I don't think additional opencl packages are needed to be installed.
What is your OS and what is the specific error message? Did you run with GUI or make flow?

I'm also new to Vitis but I've tried to compile openCL programs and without success, but I have made some progress.
also use this link https://www.xilinx.com/html_docs/xilinx2019_2/vitis_doc/wzv1561825647931.html
and this https://github.com/Xilinx/Vitis-Tutorials/blob/master/docs/Pathway3/BuildingAnApplication.md?fbclid=IwAR1Rz9I80Dxv9SrzPT-Glw4zCg0aPzLzlTkOFE1fUDC9zO2mWkj-5uEspes
I've downloaded OpenCL libaries from Khronos git https://github.com/KhronosGroup/OpenCL-Headers
now I have both manually installed OpenCL in some folder and another copy in "/usr/include/" <- I got this one via sudo apt get
If you get this to compile feel free to share it with us :D

Refer to p18 of
opencl icd(installable client driver) is not specfic to sdaccel or vititis
Xilinx is just one of opencl platforms
