ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I am getting this error while trying to debug my Vivado project. The .bit file downloads successfully, but I get this error when trying to open a Hardware session:

set_property PROGRAM.FILE {C:/project/eLink_top/eLink_top.runs/impl_1/eLink_top_wrapper.bit} [lindex [get_hw_devices] 2]

ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'. See previous error messages.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Thanks

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

Thanks for reposting here, Russ.  From his directory path I think Russ is seeing this on Windows.  I am seeing the same problem on Linux: the bit file downloads and executes fine, but you always see this error, which prevents any attempt to use debug builds.

set_property PROGRAM.FILE {/home/dwisehart/Documents/dg_hw/dg_hw.runs/impl_1/DG_K7_LL_QSFP.bit} [lindex [get_hw_devices] 0]

INFO: [Hwserver 48-1033] '0': Programming completed successfully.

(CseFpga_getDeviceReg Error comes up in a dialog that is captured in the attached file.)

I have noticed you can sometimes see the same error with the tcl command:

refresh_hw_device [lindex [get_hw_devices] 0]

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

Hi,

Sometimes VCSE server take time to respond.

So try these steps before opening hardware session from GUI.

1)open command prompt of ISE.Go to start à all programs à Xilinx Design tools --> ISE Design Suite 14.x --> Accessories --> ISE Design Suite command prompt -->go to Vivado directory.

As shown:-

 hardware.PNG

2)After doing this you will get see that Vivado Cse Server started. Now open the hardware session in Vivado.

Try this out.

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I tried this method. Here is what happens:

First I run the server, this is what is displayed on the console:

c:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.2\bin>vcse_server
Vivado Cse Server Version 2013.2 - Compiled Jun 15 2013 11:27:57
Vivado Cse Server: Opened server at port: 60001
To exit the server, type command 'exit'

Then I start the hardware session from the Vivado GUI.
Open a New Hardware Target -> next
Server Name -> localhost:60001 -> next
Open Server (Connecting to Server Window is displayed)

The console window shows:

VCSE %
Vivado Cse Server:Opening client connection from 127.0.0.1 on port 49844
Vivado Cse Server:Connected on Wed Aug 28 2013 at 09:55:02 AM Eastern Daylight T
ime

The Vivado GUI shows the Select Hardware Target window

Hardware Targets
Type Port ESN
xilinx_tcf (blank) Digilent/......

Hardware Devices
Name ID Code IR Length
Unknown Device 0 02a..... 0
ARM_DAP_1 4ba.... 4
XC7Z045_2 037..... 6

I select Next->
I leave Target Properties at default Next->
I select Finish->

The console window displays:

VCSE %
Vivado Cse Server:Closing client connection from 127.0.0.1 on port 49844
Vivado Cse Server:Disconnected on Wed Aug 28 2013 at 09:55:35 AM Eastern Dayligh

Vivado Cse Server:Connected on Wed Aug 28 2013 at 09:55:35 AM Eastern Daylight T
ime
VCSE %

The GUI displays the error window with the [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

It looks like the GUI and server port addresses are out of sync.

I still cannot run the debugger.

Thanks

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

On Linux I always run the hw_server and vcse_server from the command line.  I get a little different messages than Russ, which is probably the difference between Windows and Linux, but the process fails in the same way with the same message about CseFpga_getDeviceReg.

Enumerating device 0.
TestShiftBitCount=0.
SlowNavigate=0.

Since the hw_server has debug logging, I turned that on and gave it a go.  The error result was the same, but here is what the hw_server put in its window when connecting to the device, after which the error was displayed:

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I was seeing similar vcse_server failure messages on 2013.2.  They persisted through Vivado restarts, and computer reboots.  They went away when I unplugged and replugged the Xilinx Platform Cable USB 2 JTAG programmer - perhaps something gets hung up in its firmware from time to time?  Reboots were not cycling power to it.

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

Thanks for the report.  After you get the device to stop complaining, have you tried programming it?  I can make the error stop appearing until I try to do something useful like programming the FPGA.  The FPGA programs fine, but at the end of the programming the error pops up again each time I try any operation.

I see the same results in ISE Impact.  I am running Linux.  Are you running Linux or Windows?

Thanks,

Daniel

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I was able to program the FPGA and capture debug data after replugging the programmer (after wasting a fair amount of time rebooting, recompiling, web searching, etc, etc!).  I'm running Win 7 x64.

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I had the same error, but it was only associated with one of the two debug cores that I am using.  I deleted the core causing the error and created a new core with the same signals but grouped into fewer probes.  I recompiled everything and now I no longer get the error.  I'm not sure if the using fewer probes made a difference or just deleting and recreating the debug core was the solution.  I am using 2013.2

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I have found the solution.

I am using a ZC706 Evaluation board. I had a third party FMC module plugged in to the LPC connector. This Third party board has an UNKNOWN jtag device in the chain. If I remove this board from the system, the UNKNOWN device does not appear in the JTAG chain.

Then the hardware session completes as advertised without the UNKNOWN device in the chain.

I still need the FMC card in my system though.

I wonder if the IR Length for the UNKNOWN device is incorrect? I will have to experiment with this some more.

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

The hardware session works with an UNKNOWN device in the JTAG chain, if I program the correct instruction length for the UNKNOWN device in the Hardware Session setup window.

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

This is great detective work.  I also had the same problem, but did not realize it was the unknown JTAG device in the chain (a QDR II+ SRAM in my case) that was causing the problem.  Once I put in the IR length of 3 bits, everything started working.

Many thanks, russellesmith,

Daniel

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I am using 2013.2 and just ran into this problem.  The only solution that worked for me was to reduce the number of probes being used.  I am using only one core and had about 200 nets connected by 41 probes.  I reduced the core to 162 nets connected by 27 probes.  Hope they fixed this in 2013.3 :)

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I had this problem and also some errors (cannot open vcse_server) when opening the server in the Vivado Hardware manager.

closed Vivado, cycled my development board, still occurred

.

I fixed it by ending the vivado and vcse_server processes, then restarting Vivado and the hardware manager.

Re: ERROR: [Labtools 27-1829] vcse_server failed during internal command 'CseFpga_getDeviceReg'

I'm having this problem in 2013.4, also with just one ILA out of three. The others are ok. Maybe it has too many signals/probes?

When I try to trigger it, it hangs for a long long time with "Uploading waveform". I let it sit overnight so I'm not sure how long it took to timeout but at the end was an error like this.

Any suggestions?

I'm adding the probes directly in the code using the mark as debug statements. Is there a way to tell it to split sets of signals into different ILAs?

Thanks,

Dan

I believe this has been resolved in 2014.1 and later.
