How to save ILA/VIO Waveform Configuration

Jump to solution

I've designed an in-system debugger/data generator that is configured using a VIO core, with status signals monitored using VIO inputs and an ILA core. I have the waveform configured a certain way with some signals placed into virtual buses, dividers/groups added, and some VIO outputs with their radix set a certain way or set to a "toggle" button. The ILA and VIO share a dashboard.

Is there a method to save this configuration so another user can open the hardware manager and connect to the device, and maintain the same waveform setup between sessions, without requiring my entire project structure? The only file the hardware manager (end user will be using Vivado lab edition)requires to start the session is "debug_nets.ltx", however none of the configuration changes I make to the waveform are saved to this, and I see no option to do so.

Hi @dpikul,

In order to have the configurations, you must be operating within a project. If you simply open the HW Manager and program the board, all the configurations will only be saved in memory and once you close it you'll lose it all.

The good news is that you don't have to share your entire project structure. you can instead create a Vivado Lab Edition project (.lpr file), which will only contain the bitstream, the .ltx file, and all the waveform configurations you've made. Then you can just share this project with your end user.

Please take a look at this video (start at minute 4:00) to see how to create such project.

In addition, you can find more information in the document Vivado Programming and Debugging - UG908, Chapter 2, pg. 18.

Thank you,
