SmartLynq cable GPIO as Logic Analyzer

Hi,

 

I was hoping to use the 8 GPIO pins of the SmartLynq cable as simple Logic Analyzer or for digital data acquisition.

 

Documentation on the SmartLynq cable is very poor. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to record and display the GPIO signals from the cable and if so, what the sample rate / frequency would be?

 

Any other information source next the ones listed below is also welcome.

Hi @svlugt,

 

The SmartLynq cable does not have data logger capabilities. The GPIO ports are for basic input/output operations, such sending a trigger in or out, activating a switch, etc.

 

To collect/analyze any data, you'd have to use an oscilloscope or instantiate the ILA IP in our design.

 

Everything that can be done with the SmartLynq GPIo ports are described on the document SmartLynq Data Cable User Guide - UG1258, pg. 16 to 19.

Hi @anunesgu,

 

Thank you for your response. Ok good to know what the limitations are.

 

The UG1258 does not make note of I/O latencies and response time. I.e the latency on reading an input or setting an output.

 

For example with the setup as depicted in UG1258 "Figure 1-11: Sample Setup—Cable H to an Oscilloscope", one needs to know the latency in receiving the trigger from the Oscilloscope for accurate measurements.

 

Is there any information on this? A range (us, ms, s) would already be nice to get some idea of what to expect.

@svlugt,

 

Thank you for asking that question. Unfortunately there's no characterization for the GPIO interface yet.

 

I spoke to the team responsible for the SrmatLynq cable and just opened an internal Change Request (CR) to have them characterize the interface and update such information on the document UG1258.
