Unreliable ILA

I've been experiencing a series of strange behaviours with ILA, like:

- Hardware manager not being able to connect

- Waveform window showing no signals and no button to add signals:

- When adding probes, asking for the probes files, but nothing happens:

- If finally connects and shows signals, the trigger button does nothing (the console says it's armed but it won't trigger and forcing trigger captures nothing)

I tried deleting all the ILAs and adding new ones.

That happens with both ILA and system ILA on Vivado 2018.3

I didn't have such problems before.

clutching at straws,

   You on W10,

There have been lots of updates in the last 3 years,

it could be that your OS and Vivado are not compatible,

can try 2020.x ?

I'm on w10. Yeah, could try that, the good thing of installing Vivado at home on a Sunday evening is that I can have dinner while it downloads (1 h) and read half a book while it installs (2h).

It would appear that Xilinx Sw people don't see that as a problem,

I guess they all work on a direct network connection, or have a fast machine / ADSL , or just dont try it off the internet.

They (sw guys) don't use ILA, I think they take an oath of never messing with hardware so they would only complain if they can't step debug. Part of their daily routine is checking whether they have the latest release of everything, so they are very tolerant to upgrade processes.
