FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

Hi All

I am trying to make a communication link between FPGA V6 . I am following" LogiCORE IP Virtex-6
FPGA GTX Transceiver Wizard v1.9" document. In the test example PCIe connectors are used but I want to use SMA connectors. So I changed GTX MGT BANK_114 with BANK_116 and uses GTX_X0Y18.I got my required results on simulation but on implementation on FPGA ml605 board recevied data is not correct.

can anybody suggest me more changes in example to run for SMA.

Regards

Usman

Re: FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

u,

When you locate to another transceiver, the design requires to be re-placed, and re-routed.  When it is placed and routed, what did the timing report say? Do you still have sufficient positive slack?

If it is not a timing problem, then it may be a signal integrity problem.  Have you downloaded the models for the transceiver drivers and receiver, and simulated the channel through the package, board, connectors, and cables?

In the case of the SMA connectors, they must be EXACTLY the same delay.  Inexpensive SMA cables do not control their length, and you get bad signal (symbol) distortion when the + wire is longer than the - wire (in a differential ine, this would not happen, but using two SMA cables makes this easy to get wrong with cheap cables).

Design have sufficient positive slack.Cables have no problem of length.
I am using ml605 board and doing loop back.

Re: FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

Last thought,

A short loopback may have low loss, and the settings are for a more lossy channel, so the receiver is over-driven.

This is the reason why I suggested the signal integrity simulation (or measuring the signals, which is far more difficult).

Re: FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

Hi,

I am Amruta.I am Xilink Kintex 7 FPGA board.

Is it possible to interface antenna to GTX SMA connector if yes what are the steps to configure it.

Thanks,

Amruta

Re: FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

a,

The GTX (GTP, GTH, etc). do not operate with an antenna.  An antenna requires a RF receiver, which is something that is not (presently) on any FPGA device.

I know, and as a wise engineer friend of mine likes to say, "The customer is always right, even when they're wrong."

Re: FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

You could probably use it as a transmitter! :)

Here's a great hack - an AVR that transmits a tune to an FM radio by changing the PLL calibration register. The schematic diagram is worth checking out.

Or you could try: FPGA FM Transmitter

Assembled this in 1 hr and got a complaint from the neighbor

Re: FPGA communication through GTX SMA Connectors

can any body plz guide me communication between sparten6 aurora core and kintex7 gtx aurora core i am using using xilinx sp605 board aurora 8b10b ip core for communication between two sparent 6 boards and it communicates very well. i also check kintex7 board with aurora 8b10b ip core and it also communicates well but wen i connects the two boards tougher it dose not works at all.
