problem of microblaze mcs

Jump to solution

Hi

I am trying to add a microblaze mcs Ip core in my project in order to use UART as a transmitter. however, after reading the userguide of microblaze mcs, i am still confused about it. here is the questions below. I sincerely hope anyone can help. many thanks!

1. since the purpose of using a microblaze mcs is just to transfer data from fpga to pc, do i still need to creat a software to realize it?

2. if so, where should I generate the software? SDK?

1 - Yes, the MicroBlaze MCS is a processor core, so you will need to write software that retrieves your data from somewhere and then transfers that out the UART. You may also want to write software for your PC that captures the data, though you could also use a terminal emulator with built-in data capture or something.

2 - To write programs for the MCS, it's easiest to use the SDK.

after the ip core generated, I have imported the hardware description in SDK and created a standalone board support package. And in peoject navigator, I have typed source ipcore_dir/microblaze_mcs_setup.tcl, and microblaze_mcs_data2mem. then behavioral simulation was started, I got a result shown below, I think the uart_tx signal is not correct.

Hi joelby

many thanks for your help. While do you have any reference on how to write programs in SDK for MCS? Since I have created board support package which which provides MicroBlaze processor-specific code, and the IO Module software driver (mentioned in Xilinx ds865 microblaze MCS).

Do I still need to to write a specific software for UART peripheral? If so, is there any useful source?  I am learning Xilinx Software Development Kit Help Contents now.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I'm not sure if there is a good reference/tutorial for using the SDK and the Xilinx-specific C library functions - I haven't used the SDK much, so I've never looked for one. Have a look in the Help menu, perhaps?

If you can't find such a document, I would recommend that you download one of the XPS/EDK/SDK-based example designs for your development board and study the C source files. These almost always use the serial port for debug output.
