Big Data Analytics + High Availability Network = IIoT: SoC-e demo at Embedded World 2016

Late last month at Embedded World 2016 in Nuremberg, SoC-e (SoC Engineering) demonstrated its Zynq-based CPPS-gate40 intelligent IIoT gateway in the Xilinx booth. The demo included two of the SoC-e CPPS-gate40 nodes connected with a central node based on the new Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC. All three nodes are connected to a 1Gbps, dual-redundant optical networking ring and run SoC-e’s HSR/PRP IP (High-availability Seamless Redundancy and Parallel Redundancy Protocol). Here’s a block diagram of the demo system:

One of the gateways collects data through a variety of sensors including temperature, power consumption, grid frequency, and video. The gateway processes the collected data and runs an autonomous control loop while delivering processed data via the network for big-data analysis. The industrial network links to a laptop PC—representing a big-data collection server—via the other gateway.
