The Ethernet FMC card from Opsero Electronic Design plugs into the Zynq-based Avnet ZedBoard’s LPC (low pin count) FMC connector and adds four Gigabit Ethernet ports to the board’s peripherals. The board itself contains four Marvell 88E1510 Gigabit Ethernet PHYs and port connectors with integrated magnetics. The Ethernet MACs reside in the Zynq SoC, either using the hard Ethernet MAC in the Zynq SoC’s PS (Processor System) or Ethernet MACs instantiated in the Zynq SoC’s PL (Programmable Logic). Opsero provides reference designs for these two use cases, shown below in block diagram form:
