Zynq-based Iris Scanner identifies 1 in 1.5 million with one iris match, 1 in 1.2 trillion with two matched irises

Like a fingerprint, every human iris is unique. Last week in the Xilinx booth at Embedded World held in Nuremberg, Germany, EyeLock demonstrated its high-speed Iris Scanner based on EyeTech’s Zynq-based eye-scanning technology. One iris used as a biometric identifier can ID a person with a false-accept rate of one in 1.5 million. With both irises identified, the false-ID rate drops to one in 1.2 trillion. While at the show, EyeLock’s demo got a lot of attention from a few European car companies as a way to both secure the vehicle and to track driver attentiveness using the same imaging hardware.
