Zynq-based NI roboRIO ships to FIRST Robotics Competition teams

First revealed at NIWeek 2013, the Zynq-based roboRIO controller is now shipping to FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams worldwide. This controller, designed specifically for student robotics, extends the long-standing partnership between NI and FIRST for another five years, and puts a smaller, faster, and more powerful controller in the hands of students.

The highly featured NI roboRIO controller is compatible with the company’s LabVIEW GUI-based programming environment. The NI roboRIO features analog inputs, digital inputs and outputs, relay outputs, PWM outputs, SPI and I2C ports, USB, and an Ethernet connection. Many of the roboRIO controller’s hardware and real-world control features are directly derived from the Xilinx Zynq Z-7020 SoC that’s an integral part of the controller’s design.
