XIMEA 4K video camera sends 130frames/sec over 300m of fiber using company’s FPGA-based camera platform

Late last month, XIMEA announced availability of its CB120 4K video camera based on a CMOSIS CMV12000 sensor and the same FPGA-based camera platform used in the company’s CB200 5K digital video camera introduced last year. (See “XIMEA CB200 5K digital video camera pumps 1.7Gbytes/sec down a 300M optical cable using FPGA-based PCIe.”) The camera is available with either a monochrome or a near-infrared version of the CMOSIS 4K sensor. XIMEA uses a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA to implement the camera’s high-speed PCIe interface, among other things.

Key specifications for the new camera include its high resolution (12Mpixels) and high-speed frame rate (130 frames/sec) in a compact package (60x60x38mm) with low power consumption (8W). A fiber-optic interface allows the camera to transmit images over 300m. The camera has a Canon EF lens mount that accepts the more than 100 EF lenses Canon has developed for its EOS SLR and dSLR cameras.
