AXI 4 UART Lite

Hello there,

Can we make use of AXI-4 UART lite IP Core without instantiating Microblaze IP Core and launching XSDK on KC705 evaluation board?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Deepthi

Re: AXI 4 UART Lite

Yes, absolutely. You just need an AXI Master to drive it.

Re: AXI 4 UART Lite

There are plenty of open UART IP cores you can use that might be easier to drive, and don't require either a microblaze, AXI master, or AXI interconnect to use.  You could also create your own--they aren't that hard.  Here's a tutorial discussing how to do so.

Thanks for replying.

You mean an AXI Traffic generator IP Core to be used as master ?

Re: AXI 4 UART Lite

@sai_deepthi,

The AXI traffic generator IP core looks like its purpose is to test and verify whether or not generated AXI signals match the standard, rather than a general purpose AXI master.

Your goal was to control an AXI UART lite, but without the heavy weight of a processor, interconnect, etc.  This is still quite doable--but requires writing your own AXI (lite?) master to control it.

I brought up the alternative of not using AXI at all, but it would require using a different UART core.

Re: AXI 4 UART Lite

But I need to do it using AXI bus interface only as it is proven IP in vivado.

Anyways, thank you for sharing information about AXI traffic generator.
