[FMC connection] Chip2Chip between ZCU104 and KC705

Jump to solution

Hi, I’m trying on C2C between ZCU104(master) and KC705(slave).

The problem I’m having is when connecting FMC cable on the board (ZCU104, zynq ultrascale+), the hardware manager shuts down with following error.

[Labttolstcl 44-513] HW Target shutdown. Closing target ~.

I think the probelm is related to the page below. (UG1267 pp.39)

I'm stuck at the point "The attached FMC card must implement a TDI-to-TDO connection using a device or bypass jumper to ensure that the JTAG chain connects to the U1 XCZU7EV MPSoC."

Can anyone give me an advice?

Regards

Jake

Dear travisc,

Thank you for responding.

I've somehow managed to solve the problem, but not sure it's the right way.

I covered up D29, D30, D31 which is TCK, TDI, TDO and it worked. (Since pins are so small, I covered D29 ~ D40)

Interface card (LPC):

Both ZCU104 and KC705 uses VITA 57.1 FPGA mezzanine card.

Cable:

It is a HPC cable but I checked that it works on LPC settings between KC705(master) <-> KC705(slave).

Regards,

Jake

What interface card or cable are you using specificly? How is your JTAG bypass being setup?

@jake8542

The tape is a clever workaround.  That will keep the two boards from battling each other via the JTAG lines (ie. TDI and TDO).

When the FMC cable is attached, are you somehow holding the Bus Switch, U27, closed?  Keeping U27 closed is necessary (I think) if JTAG is to work properly on the ZCU104. Similar to U27 on the ZCU104, there is a switch on the KC705 board which you’ll need to hold closed too.

I suspect that the two boards will battle via other lines on the FMC cable - and tape may again be needed to resolve these battles.
