SP605 Ethernet Problem

Jump to solution

I have tried to get the Base Reference Design for the SP605 to work but so far have been unsuccessful.

The first thing was that UG625 (SP605 Getting Started) said to set SW1 so that both M1 and M0 are off (0b00).  With that setting I could not get either the Base Reference Design (S1 0b1101) or the BIST (S1 0b0001) to work.  The UG526 (SP605 Hardware User Guide) corrected that ... SW1 M1 must be on ('1') and M0 must be off ('0') for the System ACE CF to work.

Having corrected the SW1 to be M1:0 = 0b10, I got BIST (S1 0b0001) to work.  Everything seemed to pass.

But I cannot get the Base Reference Design (and Base Reference Design Interface) to work at all.

I've set the PC to 192.168.1.100 but cannot ping 192.168.1.10 (the SP605).  I have allother network interfaces disabled.  I've tried with Win7-64 and (on a different machine) XP-32.  Nothing.  I installed Wireshark on both and can't see anything from the SP605.  I've tried different cables (as well as a crossover cable).  Nothing.

Having seen that the documentation is "unreliable" (see re. SW1 above) I have a strong suspicition that there is some secret setting that isn't described in the manuals.

What should I try next?  Or is the Base Reference Design just not operable?

I tried (again) with a Windows XP machine.  I disabled the wireless device and set the IP address for the one and only one LAN to 192.168.1.100 (mask 255.255.255.0, no gateway).  I connected the ethernet cable to the SP605 and then, with S1[1:4]=0b1101 and SW1[1:0]=0b10 I powered on the SP605.  This time I was able to get "Link connected to FPGA" on the Base Reference Design Interface.

Knowing that the BRD is not supported under WIndows 7 helped ... focusing on the XP machine was the solution.  Thanks!

The reference designs targeting SP605 are not supported in Windows-7. Please refer to http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/40705.html
