Spartan 3A-DSP 3400A and necessary documentation

Dear All,

I have a Spartan 3A-DSP 3400A board

http://www.xilinx.com/products/devkits/HW-SD3400A-DSP-DB-UNI-G.htm

The first problem that I have is with the documentaiton, the 3400A board is a quite sofisticated board and all I seem to be able to find is the 50 page User Guide here:

http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/boards_and_kits/ug498_s3a_3400_board.pdf

is this normal?

Can somebody please help me out by telling me how to get tutorials and examples on soft-core processor implementation?

I am quite at the beginning of this Xilinx FPGA  esperience and I find it quite frustrating. I would appreciate very much your help.

best regards

fabrizio

It is normally, you have chosen a development board. Xilinx tells you where are all pins of FPGA, that PIN standard can use, where are the clock and more.

What else do you need to start using it ?

If you need examples, check if there are.

Hi Kappa,

thanks for your email. yes I am italian, you too?

I would be happy to know, for instance, how to implement a simple microblaze that uses the DVI. The board does not seem to come with any explanation or core IP modules for the many pheripherals that the board has. Maybe somebody can hlep?

thank you and regards

fabrizio

The manual for the development board never contains information for developing applications if not for the hardware interface. Normally you need to find a part of the "Reference Design". For Your board DVI reference design is here Reference Design . Maybe other reference disgn are on Avnet.

Well, there are certainly a number of relevant guides:

http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/hw-sd3400a-dsp-db-uni-g.htm

Also, you may learn something from the reference designs for the other 3A-type hardware:

http://www.xilinx.com/products/boards/s3astarter/reference_designs.htm

And of course, if you have more specific questions, there's always this forum!

Hope that's helpful...
