ZCU102 failed board interface test

Jump to solution

Hi,

I got a brand new ZCU102. I had trouble running my program which was exactly the same as example code. As I reported in this link

https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Video/ZCU102-Displayport-example-design-not-working/m-p/941522/highlight/false#M24069

After failed example design, I followed XTP435 and then run the interface test. Initially, I got error related to COM port not finding. I was able to locate the following link:

https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Evaluation-Boards/ZCU102-Board-Interface-Test-Failures/td-p/840518

I can't find config.jason file, but I found under zcu102_bit\tests\ZCU102 there's defaults.json where I modified CP210x to CP2108 but leave the rest "CP201." as it is.

Now previous tests that failed has new error message:

For ZCU102 RTC I got error:

Error: Could not find regular expression in step 0 of test 2 - "(.*)Last\s+set\s+time\s+for\s+RTC\s+is"

Error: Could not find regular expression in step 0 of test 2 - "(.*)RTC\s+time\s+after\s+set\s+is"

Error: Could not find regular expression in step 0 of test 2 - "(.*)YEAR\:MM\:DD\s+HR\:MM\:SS"

For MIG PS DDR4, I got error:

Error: Could not find regular expression in step 0 of test 4 - "(.*)memtest_all:\s+PASSED"

Error: Could not find regular expression in step 0 of test 4 - "(.*)error_counter\s+=\s+0x0000000000000000"

Can anyone help with the issue? Does that mean something is wrong with my board?

I followed the quick start guide and the LEDs are showing functional signals.

Thanks and Regards,

Michelle

hello @michelle ,

Can you please check the serial number of the Board.

  • ZCU102 Evaluation Kits labeled 0432055-01 through 0432055-04 are shipped with SODIMM MTA8ATF51264HZ-2G6B1 while ZCU102 Evaluation Kits labeled 0432055-05 onward are shipping with SODIMM MTA4ATF51264HZ-2G6E1.

Please follow the workaround mentioned in the AR-71961. Since you are using the Vivado 2018.2, you need to change the PCW IP settings according to the new DIMM parameters.

Please find the DDR setting for New DIMM:

@michelle, Heard a rumor that new ZCU-102 boards work best with 2018.3.  I would try upgrading before trying to get a RMA.

Re: ZCU102 failed board interface test

Just wanted to add a note to indicate these same settings work for the ZCU106

I ran into this problem on the ZCU106 where BOOT.bin files that worked on an older ZCU106 won't work on our new ZCU106 even though they are both REV 1.0 boards. It turned out that they had different DDR modules as described in AR-71961.

I found AR-71961 before finding this post. Upgrading to 2018.3 is problematic at this point so I was hoping for a solution for 2018.2. Though AR-71961 mentioned modifying these settings but they didn't have these new settings. Very glad I found this post.

Xilinx Support: Any way you can get these settings connected to AR-71961?

Hello @jott,

I am glad to hear that your issue has been resolved. Yes, the same settings are valid for both ZCU102 as well for ZCU106, since both the boards are having the same DDR SODIMM memory. We generally suggest to the customer to use Vivado 2018.3.

To work around this issue, we have provided .c/.h files in AR-72113. You can replace the FSBL source code files with the attached .c/.h files in 72113-files.zip.

For older version of Vivado, customer needs to do the manual settings.

Re: ZCU102 failed board interface test

Naveen,

Can you clarify something?

Reading AR-72113 it seems that it applies only to version 2018.3.  Should this also be applied if using version 2018.2 if we are using the above settings as a work around?

It is unclear if  AR-72113  should be applied to version 2018.2.

Thanks,

Joe

Hello @jott,

Unfortunately, no that AR is only valid for Vivado 2018.3.

For Vivado 2018.2/2018.1 you need to modify the DDR configuration settings.

Naveen
