questions related to axi

HI all
i am a beginner to axi. i have few questions .

1. how to know that components in axi bus are master or slave?

2. Can two master communicate each others?if yes, how to do that?
i read axi spec, there are master to slave transaction . But , it does not tell  about  master to master transaction.
Could anyone tell me more detail?
Thanks

Re: questions related to axi

(1) By reading the datasheet for that block, or just trying to connect them in the block diagram (you won't be able to connect master to master or slave to slave). The general naming convention will put a "M" on the Master ports and "S" on the slave ports.

(2) No, it's not supported.

Re: questions related to axi

@u4223374 @tommhk2002 Masters initiate reads and writes. Slaves respond to reads and writes.

That does not prevent the component exposing the master interface exposing a slave interface too. That is actually very common.

Re: questions related to axi

@tommhk2002 What @u4223374 said holds 100% true - master INTERFACES cannot talk to other master INTERFACES.

However, a component can have one or more slave AND master interfaces.

Re: questions related to axi

thanks for reply.
i wonder the reason behind two master cannot talk to each other.
if master A has a slave AA, it seems another master B can talk to slave AA.
Thanks

Re: questions related to axi

@tommhk2002 Yes, of course, two masters can talk to one slave, no problem.
