AXI4/5 Bram controller for 512MB on Viretx7 FPGA

Jump to solution

Hi,

   I am seeing 2MB AXI Bram controller(maximum) in IP catalog. Is there any way to generate 512 MB AXI4/5  Bram controlller or  is it limitation? . Please answer the question.

This table says that the xc7v2000t has 46,512 kbits of memory https://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon-devices/fpga/virtex-7.html#productTable .  A BRAM controller cannot control more memory than is present.

@ssatishk,

I would think the issue would be the amount of block RAM on a chip.  I'm not sure any chips even have 512MB on them.  At that point, you need to go off chip for something like an SDRAM or some such.

If you really need a 512MB block RAM controller, independent of whether or not it will fit on any existing FPGAs (maybe an ASIC project?), there is a highly reconfigurable open source one that should handle the sizing logic properly.  It's even got lower overhead ... but that's another story.

What Virtex device are you planning to use?  This table https://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon-devices/fpga/virtex-ultrascale.html#productTable is showing up to 132.9 Mbits of BRAM in a large device.
