Custom MAC in DSP48

Hello,

We are developing a lab project on DSP approximation. The goal is to take a DSP core with exact calculations and compare it to a faster and lighter DSP with our own implementations of approximate MAC modules. Is it possible to modify the Xilinx DSP48 IP to use our own implementation of approximate multipliers and adders? We would like to implement different approaches of multiplier approximation (Wallace Tree Multiplier, DADDA Multiplier)

The DSP48 is hard silicon.  It cannot be modified.  You can develop your approximation in FPGA fabric, but can't change the DSP48.  You can, of course, customize it in terms of which registers to use and what operations it performs, but the structure of the DSP48 can't be modified.
