"lspci -vd 10ee:" command can't detect Alveo U200 Card

Jump to solution

Hi Everyone,

I am working on Alveo U200 card device. After install the device, I can not use command "lspci -vd 10ee:" for detect my alveo card. The result returns "Serial controller" instead of "Processing accelerators" (image below). Besides, I also use "xrt" for detect but all result also return a message "No card found". Is there any ideal for this issue ?

My host computer: Ubuntu (18.04.5 LTS), Kernel 5.4.

Thank you very much.

Hi @vanloc_tc1 ,

Thanks for reaching out. Was this card used previously with a custom flow image created in Vivado? If so, and since XRT doesn't see the card, you'll need to use Vivado Hardware Manager to connect to the card and reset it to factory. You can use the steps outlined here: https://xilinx.github.io/Alveo-Cards/master/debugging/docs/common-steps.html#vivado-hw-manager

On a side note, XRT does not officially support Ubuntu 18.04 with Kernel version 5, as per UG1451:https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2020_2/ug1451-xrt-release-notes.pdf

Thank you work hard,

(1). I will check this path and "Accept as Solution"

(2). even when I downgraded Kernel to 4.15.0-76-generic (Ubuntu 18.04.5). Xrt still return error Message:

Error: Xocl and Xclmgmt not loaded. Does it relative to Ubuntu version 18.04.5 ?

Hi @vanloc_tc1 ,

Sounds great! In regards to the kernel, after downgrading the kernel to 4.15, I'd recommend uninstalling XRT, downloading the latest XRT install package for Ubuntu 18.04 from the Alveo product page: https://www.xilinx.com/products/boards-and-kits/alveo/u200.html#gettingStarted and doing a fresh install.

During the install, note any warnings or errors, especially during the sections for the xocl and xclmgmt modules. If reinstalling XRT still gives the same 'xocl and xclmgmt not loaded' error, attach the XRT install log and we'll see if it contains any helpful hints.

Sorry for the late,

1/ I realize that I can't use "lspci -vd 10ee:" conmmand to detecting my alveo board because My alveo card are working with a flash and not of "xilinx original".

2/ About Xrt on Ubuntu 18.04.5. I still not verify clearly, but the error still appears when I downgraded to 4.15.0-76-generic.

Thank you.

Hi @vanloc_tc1 ,

1. Correct, if XRT is unable to see the card, then Vivado Hardware Manager must be used to recover the card and flash it to the golden image.

2. In regards to the issues with XRT and the 4.15.0-76 generic kernel, do you have the installation console output for XRT? If the install is clean, you can try to reload the XRT drivers with the following:

sudo rmmod xocl
sudo rmmod xclmgmt
sudo modprobe xocl
sudo modprobe xclmgmt

If you can attach the XRT install output, it would be helpful to see if any warnings or errors were thrown during installation.

Best,
-Emery
