Connect two FPGA with FMC and the connection will disconnect vivado and borads

Jump to solution

I tried to connect two FPGA board(vc709 and vc707) with FMC,and the problem is once the FMC  connect two boards ,Vivado will not be able to connect FPGA board through JTAG chain.Once FMC connection between two boards were established we can't use chipscope to debug, and vivado can do nothing.

Hi 748932750@qq.com ,

What FMC cable are you using to connect these two boards together?

Last time I saw this issue, the Customer was using a HTG cable, which does not connect the JTAG pins from the two boards correctly (TDO -> TDI). Apparently, it actually ties toghether the TDIs, TDOs, and CLKs, which will basically "short" those pins and cause JTAG to not work.

We solved this issue by manually disconnecting the JTAG pins from the FMC cable (be aware that will most likely be a permanent modification in the cable).

Thanks,

THANKS! The problem has been solved .we used a scrap of paster to block pins of FMC JTAG (D29,D30,D31)  by sticking a small piece of paster to pins of the cable related, and we just need to deal with one side. Now vivado can detect both vc709 and vc707 boards, and we can debug our boards again with FMC working.
