are coregen parts backward compatible.

I have a design that I am considering updating from 12.4 to 14.7.

The upgrade has a lot to do with the sw tools available for 14.7 and operating system support.

What should my expectations be for upgrading the coregen components?

Are the component backward compatible or maybe this is not the correct term so more directly,  If I design the parts in 12.4 and got the design to work and then I upgrade the coregen parts to 14.7 would the functionality be the same "would it work the same"?

The designs are a Virtex5 with PowerPC and Spartan6 with Microblaze.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bryan

You can upgrade a design but not upgrade the IP, it is recommended to upgrade the IP certainly if it has gone to production when it was not in the past. If you don’t upgrade then it will still function but would be limited to the previous functionality
