Isolated Design Flow (IDF) and Partial Reconfiguration (PR) possible for Zynq 7000????

Hi,

is the combination of IDF and PR possible for Zynq 7000 with Vivado 2018.2?
We have not found a way jet.

At the moment we want to find out if IDF and PR could be combined in the same PL design using Vivado 2018.2. To combine IDF and PR would be necessary for a a secure design that can update the crypto cores at runtime.

 Until now we can only implement a design with one of the flows separately.
If we set HD.ISOLATED and HD.RECONFIGURABLE to the same wrapper we get the attached error from the DRC.
On the Xilinx website it is written, that IDF and PR could be combined for the Zynq 7000 but we found no way jet.

We tried to set HD.RECONFIGURABLE to one wrapper and include in this wrapper a second wrapper with HD.ISOLATED. In that case we got no errors from the DRC but when we had a closer look in the implementation there was now trusted routing (there are connected switch boxes in the fence). So we think the VIV (Vivado Isolation Verifier) does not work when HD.ISOLATED is set to an inner wrapper.

In summary we tried many ways with Zynq 7000 and Zynq UltraScale+ to combine IDF and PR with Vivado 2018.2 but unfortunately we found no way or workaround to do it.

If we get no other proof, we regrettably have to say that IDF and PR can not be combined in the same design with Vivado 2018.2 jet. No matter if it is a Zynq 7000 or a Zynq UltraScale+. Through our practical  experience and tries we can only show that the information on the Xilinx website is wrong at the moment.

It would be so great if you could find an example that showes the contrary - we trust in you expertise!

After further investigation, the latest information is, it is not possible and will not be possible to combine the IDF and PR flows on Zynq-7000. A combination of both flows is currently under development for Zynq US+.

hi @toku, for Zynq-7000, or any 7-Series part using Vivado, IDF & PR can be used in the same design however, not on the same partition. From the error message in the post, it seems that both are set on the same partition, is this correct?

Yes, the error accurs, if HD.ISOLATED and HD.RECONFIGURABLE are set on the same pblock.
We know that it is possible to have HD.ISOLATED and HD.RECONFIGURABLE in the same design on different prblocks, but we do not understand the sense of that at the moment, cause the routing of the PR pblock will enter the fence area in a prohibited way.
For Zynq UltraScale+ I attach to pictures.
One with IDF on both pblocks and one with IDF and one with PR. In the second case it seems so that the full design forgets the HD.ISOLATION property.
Why is it not possible to set both properties on the same pblock, that would make sense in our view?

Hi,

if we disable HD.ISOLATED for one wrapper in an isolated design and activate HD.RECONFIGURABLE instead, we get errors from VIV as well for the Zynq 7000 and there is no Trusted Routing in the PL visible between the remaining isolated pblocks (see attached pictures).
Therefor we think a combination of IDF and PR is neither for Zynq 7000 nor for the Zynq UltraScale+ possible with Vivado 2018.2.
