Promgen command for serial daisy chain from microprocessor

Jump to solution

I'm interested in programming multiple Spartan6 FPGAs in serial daisy chain from a microprocessor.  I want the FPGAs in slave serial.  Since I'm using a microprocessor I need just the raw bits that need to go on the DIN line.  I think the following command should do it with ISE14.6:

promgen -b -w -b bin -o output.bin -u 0 file0.bit file1.bit file2.bit

Can someone confirm that this is correct? There is a -bpi_dc serial option which I don't know if I need.

Also I'm concerned about making sure the .bin file is properly formatted to tell the FPGAs in the chain to pass the configuration file downstream for proper daisy chaining.

Thanks in advance

For serial configuration by CPU, to generate a Bin file for serial Daisy chain:

1. iMPACT GUI, you should select General parallel PROM as storage target.
2. Command line, you can refer http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/35686.htm
