FreeRTOS vApplicationAssert() not weakly declared for ultrascale+

I am trying to overwrite the Xilinx SDK FreeRTOS bsp implementations of vApplicationAssert() and vApplicationStackOverflowHook() on the ultrascale+. The function comments in portZynqUlrascale.c mention that these function should be weakly declared, but the actual implementation doesn't seem to be.

See code here: https://github.com/Xilinx/embeddedsw/blob/master/ThirdParty/bsp/freertos10_xilinx/src/Source/portable/GCC/ARM_CA53/portZynqUltrascale.c

The equivalent file for the Zynq 7000 does have weak declarations:

https://github.com/Xilinx/embeddedsw/blob/master/ThirdParty/bsp/freertos10_xilinx/src/Source/portable/GCC/ARM_CA9/portZynq7000.c

Does anyone know why this is? Are there plans to change the behavior of the ultrascale+ to match the zynq 7000 port?

Re: FreeRTOS vApplicationAssert() not weakly declared for ultrascale+

Hi @nathangustilo

Thanks for reporting the issue! Definitively it seems to be a bug in the port and actually just for A53 target as the R5 port includes the weak definition in the port.

https://github.com/Xilinx/embeddedsw/blob/23eb39df101391b896adf20fa9d6c5aee27b0adc/ThirdParty/bsp/freertos10_xilinx/src/Source/portable/GCC/ARM_CR5/portZynqUltrascale.c

I will report internally so they can fix it for the next releases. For now the workaround is just to create a copy of FreeRTOS BSP in a local repository and make the change there.

Thanks for the response. In the future, is it best if I report bugs/issues on the github page? Or is a post on the forums the preferred option?

Hi @nathangustilo,

I would recommend maybe to do both, specially the forum one as it has much more visibility within the community and might be useful for others.
