How to download my bit file from a remote node to my local FPGA board??

Hi, All

Can anyone help me with this?

I had my FPGA design on a remote supercomputer node, and I got a zedboard on my own pc, my question is how to download the bit file existed on that node to my own pc connected Zedboard??

I have tried some methods to set up the Impact for remote programming, like I try to connect the JTAG Cable, I set up at the IMPACT/Cable Setup -> choose HW_Server, Remote, and put hostname:port ( port number was generated when I run cse_server)

But this seems like a resolution to connect to remote FPGA with local .bit file, therefore is on the opposite way of mine!

So any idea?

Thank you very much!

Hi Xubintan,

Can you access the bit file from the remote location using your local machine? In other words, can you root to the remote file directory from the file path?

If yes, then you can choose the bit file from that location after clicking on "assign configuration file"

Re: How to download my bit file from a remote node to my local FPGA board??

you need to launch the hw_server on the host machine:

hw_server -s tcp::3122 -L

then on the client, you will need to connect, similat to (type connect -help for the command help)

connect arm hw -cable type xilinx_tcf url <ip addresss:3122>

fpga -f <bit file>.bit

I have attached a pdf tp this thread that shows how to set up remote debugging

Re: How to download my bit file from a remote node to my local FPGA board??

Sorry about bringing up this old thread. I'm trying to figure out the syntax of the -cable option to the xmd "connect arm hw" command.

I have the vcse_server running on the host where the FPGA is connected. netstat tells me that it's listening on the ports:

$ netstat -l |egrep 60001\|3121
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3121 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:60001 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

I can program the FPGA fine using vivado over the network. However, I would like to connect remotely using xmd, but this results in an error:

connect arm hw -cable url 172.30.30.52:3121

XMD% connect arm hw -cable url 172.30.30.52:3121
ERROR:
Failed to connect to Xilinx hw_server at 172.30.30.52:3121
. Check if
1. the hw_server is running and correct TCP port is used
2. the board is powered on and JTAG cable is connected.

Running xmd the command "connect arm hw" on the host 172.30.30.52 works fine.

Re: How to download my bit file from a remote node to my local FPGA board??

You need to specify cable type with -cable option.

connect arm hw -cable type xilinx_tcf url <tcp:host:port>

Please note that xmd is no longer the preferred cmdline debugger. You need to switch to xsdb at some point. Refer to SDK help for details about xsdb

Thanks, adding tcp: to the url made it work fine. I will take a look at xsdb.
