You don't give much details that might help. What board are you using?
Did it work before the pull and now it's not?
Did you regenerate the device tree to match the kernel or use a device tree in the kernel? The device tree changes between kernel versions and may not be compatible if your kernel version changed.

I am having exactly the same issue
I am using the microzed 7020 board and have compiled the linux-xlnx kernel from github.
The distribution is Xillinux but it doesnt even load the kernel properly.
I am trying to run the sample code that comes with Xillinux .

1 you can add fixed regulator in device tree this makes the warning go away
2 please use petalinux 2014.2 evcerything else is wast of time.. my2cent

We have the exact same issue. The last suggestion applies to removing the warning and not the hang itself.
We are using a custom board with a Z7030 with Petalinux 2014.2 The devicetree is imported as described in the UG. This issue happens on some of the builds and not others. The only changes to the build are in the PL so it shouldn't be affecting this. I have played around with the PL changes and it seems like the break is random rather than depending on certain logic being present or not.

I am dealing with the same problem since a few days with no solution. I am using a Mars ZX3 Module on a custom board. The board is using a micro SD card. Since I am usign the SD card to boot from and micro SD does not provide CD and WP signals, I had to modify the zynq boot loader so it ignores card detection. It works fine and u-boot detects the card.
But as mentioned in the first post, it hangs when the kerenl starts and reaches the point where it loads SDHCI driver for the SD card.
I tried adding broken-cd and broken-wp to the device tree and it didn't help.
I'm using Vivado and Petalinux 14.2 and latest linux kernel 3.14 which comes with the peta linux.

"broken-wp" does not exist. I submitted a patch to add support for it, but it was never accepted.
Connect the CD and WP lines to EMIO, do not set them as unused in Vivado (Vivado <= 2014.1 will connect unused WP/CD pins to MIO 0 instead of tying them to EMIO)
There is an "invert" property (wp-inverted or something like that) that you can then use to make the WP line being seen as correct if it isn't already.

I have tried connecting the CD and WP pins to EMIO and made them external. Then in the PL I set WP= '0' and CD = '1' or CD = '0' and none of them worked.

I took a quick look at your DTS files and I see the TTC's there as well. The *important* thing though is that their status is marked as "disabled."
Embedded Linux on Zynq requires at least one TTC for use as a system timer. Double-check your hardware design in Vivado to ensure that you've enabled the Zynq PS TTC. Once it's enabled, re-implement the design in Vivado and re-export over to PetaLinux. The DTS will be updated and then you'll see it show up without the "disabled" flag.

Indeed, you're right. If the WP or CD signal were the problem, the kernel would "panic" there and complain about not being able to mount the root.
If the root filesystem is ext3/4, the kernel will also fail to mount it if it's read-only, even if you attempt to mount it "ro". This is because of the journal "playback" if the filesystem is in an inconsistent state.
