License Error while installing petalinus BSP for KC705

Jump to solution

Hi,

I'm trying to install Petalinux BSP for KC705 evaluation platform on fedora linux platform. The fedora linux is running on virtual machine over Windows 7 platform. Vivado Design Suite is installed on Windows platform. I have generated a Petalinux Tools License using the hostid and hostname of linux platform. I have kept the license at ~/.Xilinx location. I have also added this license file in Xilinx License Manager. After all the above steps, when I ran the install command I got the error:

"ERROR: No valid PetaLinux features! Typical causes for this error are
either that there is no license file or that license files, which were
found, do not contain a valid license with the required feature."

Help me to resolve this issue.

Rgds,

Mayank

Hi,

The license issue has been resolved. Only thing need to take care is that while placing Petalinux license at ~/.Xilinx location, root does not give enough permission for this folder to be accessed by Petalinux SDK. So, I did

su chmod 777 ~/.Xilinx

and it worked fine.

Thanks all for your help.

Thanks,

Mayank

Hi Vijay,

I compared the steps as per the link, even I did the same thing. I changed the name of file from Xilinx.lic to petalinux.lic. Still facing the same error.

Which version of the PetaLinux are you using?

Fedora is not a supported OS for Petalinux. The supported OS are RHEL 5.0 32/64 bit and Ubuntu.

The reason for the error on Fedora is that the Xilinx tools (and many others) look for network devices named "eth0" etc., but Fedora uses "bios" names - "em0" and "p2p1."

One solution is to delete the package biosdevname.

Hi Sampatd,

Petalinux Version - 13.04

In ug976, fedora is mentioned as one of the supported OS for petalinux.

Fedora is using network device named "eth0". I have attached the screenshot of network devices.

Is there a way to link petalinux license stored in linux VM to Xilinx license manager available on host widows 7 platform?

I have added one copy of license to Xilinx license manager also. But I think the linking has not been done correctly.

Hello,

I think the issue is hostid mismatch. (since petalinux is running on fedora and whereas license was generated using windows 7 hostid information)
To confirm this:
Can you share the license file here?
Also share the output of tcl command: report_environment -file env.txt

Thanks,
Vinay

Hi Vinay,

For your reference, the details are as:

1. Xilinx.lic (Windows 7 platform)

   VENDOR_STRING=mayankara,XC7K325T_SystemEdition,software,permanent,_210634267_1777491670_210558827_707 \
HOSTID=002128586b44 ISSUER="Xilinx Inc" START=05-Jan-2015 \

2. Petalinux.lic (Fedora running on VM)

VENDOR_STRING=mayankara,PetaLinux_NoSuport_Eval,software,evaluation,_210634267_1777491670_0_961 \
HOSTID=0800275389b1 ISSUER="Xilinx Inc" START=18-Jan-2015 \

I'm also attaching the snapshot of Xilinx License Manager for your reference.

Any sort of help will be appreciated.

Hello Mayank,

Confirm the hostid of the fedore machine is: 0800275389b1

since the petalinux license is attached to the above hostid.

Thanks,

Vinay
