Petalinux image generation

Jump to solution

I am trying to generate images using petalinux. I see that the sizes of images generated is much smaller than the pre-built binaries.

Size of generated image.ub is 13.3mb whereas the one in pre-built is 48.8mb

Size of generated BOOT.BIN is 14.6mb whereas the one in pre-built is 27.6mb

Petalinux is version 2018.2 and bsp is xilinx-zcu102-v2018.2-final.bsp

Below are the steps used for generation of images

1.) petalinux-create --type project --template ZynqMP --name ZCU102 -s <path to bsp>

2.) petalinux-build

Should I be concerned that the images generated are smaller in size?Am I missing any step?

Hi @adithyab

Yes you are correct. Pre-built images are always bigger in size than the one generated after build. This is because pre-built image has additional files pre-compiled and bundled in it

At least, you've missed 'petalinux-config --get-hw-description' command

I have tried the below option

petalinux-config --get-hw-description=<path to folder with hdf>

Path was set to where the default system.hdf is stored. I still did not see any difference
